The Student Appeals Support Centre Appeals Advisors are undergraduate students at Western University, trained to assist you on academic matters. Receiving advice on academic matters is a confidential process to help you address your concerns regarding academic matters related to, but not limited to, grades, progression, appeals, and academic probation. It involves a supportive, respectful, and understanding relationship between you and your appeals advisor who has the desire and willingness to assist you in gaining an understanding of the university’s academic policies, your rights and responsibilities in academic matters, and the procedures in potential appeals processes.
Appeals Advisors are volunteers that operate in the portfolio of the Vice-President University Affairs. Your Appeals Advisor may consult with other Appeals Advisor(s) or the Vice President University Affairs, Associate Vice President Academic or Student Appeals Support Centre Coordinator to provide the best possible solution to your academic concern.
Appeals Advisors and/or USC are not legally liable for any advice hared or any subsequent procedures followed by the student based on advice procured.
All interactions with Appeals Advisors, including the scheduling of our appointments, your attendance at appointments, the content of your meetings, any materials shared during the meetings, and the outcome of the meetings and any subsequent steps are confidential. No record of meetings with Appeals Advisors will be included in any
academic or educational record. Meeting notes, documents exchanged during meetings, and other paper records are securely kept.
Appeals Advisors may only be contacted through official Student Appeals Support Center communication channels. Queries posed through personal communication channels will not be answered. Appeals Advisors aim to provide timely responses to your concerns but may not be able to provide immediate assistance.
By signing this agreement, you acknowledge that you have reviewed the terms of use with respect to appeals advisors, which is attached to this confidentiality agreement, and are seeking assistance from an Appeals Advisor voluntarily. You also understand and acknowledge the limitations concerning the process and accept these limitations. The terms of use sets out the duties and responsibilities of appeals advisors, and these have been explained to you. You understand that Appeals Advisors provide support to students on academic matters, but cannot represent you, speak on your behalf or advocate for you in your academic program or at any level of hearings at the University. You further understand that the University provides additional assistance for undergraduate students with respect to academic matters, specifically through the Office of the Ombudsperson. In addition, you understand that Appeals Advisors cannot provide you with legal advice, and that you can seek advice from lawyers in addition to discussing your concerns with Appeals Advisors.
